SYNOPSIS

Two friendly couples, Jim and his wife Danielle, and Yvonne and her husband Chris, have two children each and seem to live in marital bliss until cracks begin to appear in both seemingly stable marriages. The film asks the question ‘How well do we really know each other?’ and explores ideas of love, desire and family relationships.

CINDIE SAYS:

Mark O’Rowe’s The Delinquent Season (2018) is an understated yet emotionally intense drama that delves into the fragile nature of marriage, desire, and human connection. With strong performances from its lead actors and a sharp script, the film offers an intimate look at how relationships can unravel beneath the weight of secrecy and unspoken resentment.

The Delinquent Season marks O’Rowe’s directorial debut. While he had previously written screenplays (Intermission, Boy A), this was his first time behind the camera. The script is rich with subtext, and much of the tension comes from what is left unsaid rather than overt conflicts. O’Rowe’s direction is similarly restrained, relying on naturalistic performances and intimate framing rather than dramatic cinematography.

With stellar performances and a thoughtful script, the film is a worthwhile watch for fans of nuanced storytelling.
