The main pallbearer, Captain Richard Williams, who had the weight of the nation on his shoulders and that of his men, and the former Royal Protection Officer who looked after Diana and the two Princes and travelled in the hearse with Diana's coffin. CINDIE SAYS:
Diana: The Day the World Cried is a moving documentary that revisits one of the most solemn and poignant moments in modern history: the funeral of Princess Diana. With an intimate and respectful approach, this film, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Leslie Woodhead, captures the emotional atmosphere of that day in 1997 when the world came together to mourn the loss of the “People’s Princess.” The documentary offers a unique perspective by focusing on the people closest to Diana, including those who planned and organised her final farewell.
The director’s approach to weaving archival footage with newly recorded interviews, creating an immersive narrative that feels both historic and deeply personal. Leslie Woodhead, known for his documentaries on historical and political events, brought his skill in storytelling to the film, crafting it to capture the emotional weight of the event without veering into sentimentality.
